The 1000 Islands region has been an internationally popular vacationing mecca for well over a century. And now, with the preferred value of the U.S. dollar, you can enjoy the international beauty of the region right from the U.S. much less expensively than our Canadian neighbors are charging to stay in the Islands on the Canadian side. For an explanation on the present currency exchange value please scroll to the bottom of this page.

The Thousand Islands Inn opened in 1897 and is now beginning its second century of serving 1000 Islands visitors. Over the first 100 years it has played a major part in both Clayton's and the region's history.

On May 12, 1997, just four days before it began its 100th Anniversary season, the Thousand Islands Inn was placed on both the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. Four days later, as it opened for its centennial season, it was presented a Certificate of Special Recognition from the United States House of Representatives by Congressman John M. McHugh, declaring it one of the "Treasures of the North Country." It was also issued a Certificate of Merit by New York State Senator Jim Wright, on behalf of the Senate, in recognition of achieving a century of service to the 1000 Islands region.

Down through the years the Inn has hosted numerous celebrities, it is where Thousand Island Salad Dressing was first served to the dining public and today it houses the regions only national award-winning restaurant.

The Inn also offers a complete array of Vacation Packages featuring local attractions, 1000 Islands boat cruises, white water rafting on the nearby Black River and sport fishing through its own 1000 Islands Fishing Charters service. 1000 Islands Diving Adventures offers complete bottle and wreck diving packages, taking full advantage of the crystal clear waters of the St. Lawrence River. All packages include deluxe accommodations in the Inn's recently renovated rooms, featuring a late 1800s country inn decor, complete with private baths and color cable TV and meals in the Inn's popular dining room taken from its award winning breakfast, luncheon and dinner selections.

With the recent change in the exchange rate on the Canadian dollar, the value of the U.S. dollar in Canada has been reduced by nearly 25%.
For our Canadian neighbors this means that the cost of a vacation in the U.S. will be around 22% less expensive than at the same time last year, due to the dramatically increased purchasing power of the Canadian dollar.
For Americans considering a 1000 Islands vacation on the Canada side of the river, remember that while $100 U.S. dollars were worth $120 Canadian dollars last season, it is now worth only $98.  This means that a vacation based on the U.S. side will see you getting 100% value for your dollar. If you have taken a 1000 Islands vacation in Canada in the past, or are considering one this coming season, expect to see a major difference (about 22% more) in the final cost of your trip, compared to a similar vacation based on the U.S. side of the river.
